2008-03-28 -- Spring Cleaning
Ok, maybe just spring dreaming, because the cleaning doesn’t seem to be going so well, or happening at all for that matter.
What’s new? Well this is sort of new... I just discovered that the contact form is broken. Crud... sorry if you tried to send a note with it and it didn't work. I think I fixed it, however, I haven't had a chance to test it yet. :-P
Not a lot of new content to share yet, but behind the scenes, quite a bit has been happening.
Art: I’ve been working sporadically (yet diligently) on some art that should be available for various purposes in as little as a month, if all goes well. I’ve also been working on some black and white pieces, reverting back to my typical style, yet adding some interesting color oddities. It’s quite possible that I will have some new artwork to share upcoming quite soon.
Photos: It’s actually starting to stay light out when I get home from work in the evenings. Weekends are boding well too, because the wee girl can now sort of walk around by herself unsupervised, freeing up my hands to hold the camera. We shall see what the nice weather brings. ;-)
Writing: I have outlined a couple of stories for children’s books. I’m not sure if there will be time to invest in those for a while since I’ve already got to divide my attention into so many small fragments.
Web design: Still doing that full time. One of the things I really miss about freelance web design is that I got to stretch my wings, use all kinds of different styles and write for all different kinds of subjects. Since I don’t have time to freelance anymore, I feel sort of creatively stifled. However, Work is sending me to Boston this year to the HOW design conference 2008. WOOT! I’m really looking forward to it, and I think it will help get me off the treadmill I feel like I’ve been on lately. Luckily I have also been getting together with a small group of web designers to talk design one night per month. It’s really refreshing to hear learn about things that folks are doing. We’re varied in the way we design, but we all make it work. It keeps me inspired.
Teaching: I’ve had to suspend my teaching activities for a while. I’m hoping that there will be an opportunity to get back into it. Tentatively, I’ve planned for teaching again in September, but maybe a more realistic goal is reworking my tutorials and releasing them. I would like to spend more time learning more about PHP, databases, .net, and perhaps even get a CIW certification within the next 12 months. Hey, if it's 10:00 on a Saturday night and I'm still awake, anything is possible!
Music: Oh yeah! I used to do that, huh!. ;-) The shrimpy family members seem to be pretty interested, though, so maybe something will start up soon. I've a mind to get some Raffi tunes and teach myself some accompaniment if ever the time presents itself. The 1.5 yr old LOVES Bananaphone. The 10 yr old loves Bananafart. Could be entertaining.
Be well and toodlienoodles for for now...
