Oregon Lightning

Lilghtning brightens clouds

Now here’s something I’ve always wanted to do… photograph lightning!

I suppose I haven’t before now because the time just hadn’t ever presented itself. Lightning doesn’t happen very often in Western Oregon and I’ve generally been a) too tired to get out of bed to take the photo or b) without my camera.

Tonight, after a day of hot sunshine and a sudden change in the direction of the incoming weather, several great photo opportunities presented themselves..

Star trails were fun… set up the camera, break open a beer and let the earth do it’s little turning thing that it does. But even the kids had fun sitting in for this one.

Unfortunately there were some tower lights and some dust specs that I had to go and clean out of these, but they turned out pretty nice despite it all. It’s still going out there, but I think I’m too tired to take more.

How Design Conference 2008, Boston=Awesome!

Wow! I just spent 5 great days in Boston at the How design conference! And a whole lot of time on planes and in airports, but lets not dwell on that part. ;-)

The conference was excellent and Boston was a great place to visit! And here’s a stupid decision I made… Before I left I decided that I didn’t want to pack the camera with me. It’s bulky and I’m going to be in class almost the entire time, right? While that last bit was true, there was still a ton of great stuff to see and do. I SO regretted not bringing my camera!

However, my phone does have a “camera” on it, so I snapped a few pictures with that. (Of course, that only made me wish I’d brought the Canon even more!) Here are a few:

OK, more on the conference later, I hope! I think the little one is awake.
